As with all non-profit organizations, we rely upon the graces of others. As a volunteer, you might function as a docent to help greet visitors and tell them about Penelope Barker, the Barker House, historic attractions throughout Chowan County and the region. Perhaps you would prefer something more behind the scenes, such as performing maintenance of the Barker House from time to time. Let us know of your interest in becoming a volunteer and we’ll let you know which projects are coming up and what preparations are necessary to maximize the value of your time and effort. The work of the Commission is never done and is only possible due to the fantastic work of our volunteers. For more about volunteer opportunities, click here.

Memorial and Gift Bricks
The sidewalks surrounfing the Barker House are history in the making for future generations. We are preparing to install additional Memorial and Recognition bricks in the sidewalks around the Barker House. It is a great way to record your visit to Edenton or to recognize special events of your family’s life. Your brick will help lay the foundation for the upkeep of the historic Barker House and helps carry out numerous educational programs. Each brick has space for a 3-line message of up to 17 characters length, including punctuation and spaces. For just $100 per brick, your name and message will be recorded for future generations to enjoy. Print and complete this form and mail it with your check to The Edenton Historical Commission, 505 South broad Street, Edenton, NC 27932 (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization).
