For the lead-up to Valentine’s Day 2022, Historian Alexis Tobias-Jacavone developed the “Hearts of Edenton” series to share the enduring love stories of some of Edenton’s early historic leaders. Take a trip back in time to not only learn about these individuals, but to also discover the profound joys and sorrows of their lives, and to be inspired by their perseverance in the face of tragedy. Research sources include estate and federal census records, items from the Hayes Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, “The Life and Correspondence of James Iredell” by Griffith J. McRee, and assorted pieces by staff members of the State Archives of North Carolina for the State Library of North Carolina.
